The Atmosphere
House of Bowls is a casual spot that works well for relaxed meals with family or friends. I prefer visiting on a quiet weekend night when the pace feels slower.
The menu is quite large and can feel overwhelming at first, but that variety is part of the Hong Kong café experience. There are plenty of options to explore, from noodles to rice plates to classic café style desserts.
Service has been consistently good during my visits, and the food arrives hot and fresh.
What I Recommend
Shrimp Chow Fun
Wide rice noodles tossed with shrimp and finished with a silky egg sauce. The noodles are soft and tender, wrapped in a creamy, smooth coating that makes each bite comforting and satisfying.
Singaporean Noodles
Thin vermicelli noodles cooked with curry spices and vegetables. They are flavorful without being overly salty, with a pleasant curry warmth that stands out.
Curry Shrimp Fried Rice
Fragrant and unique compared to regular fried rice. It carries depth and spice while remaining balanced.
Hong Kong Style Hot Milk Tea
A must order. Strong, bold tea flavor with a creamy finish. Classic and comforting.
HK Style French Toast
Eggy, soft, and indulgent. Layered with butter and condensed milk that melts into every bite. It is rich, sweet, and perfect for ending the meal.
Overall Impression
House of Bowls delivers authentic Hong Kong style comfort food in Houston Chinatown. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and the flavors feel true to HK café culture.
It is a dependable casual spot when you want hot, fresh Cantonese style noodles and that iconic strong milk tea. With such a large menu, there is still plenty left for me to try on future visits.

Sara I. (Mar 12, 2016):
“Nam Nam Nam! This is true Hong Kong style food (mind you, HK style food is nothing like Chinese food, it has its own twist and flair). This is a good restaurant to try out when wanting something different than typical Oriental fare. I enjoy visiting HOB on a quiet weekend night when theirs not much happening...I have tried a few of the noodle dishes: Shrimp Chow Fun (wide rice noodles tossed with shrimp and egg sauce) & Singaporean noodles (thin vermicelli noodles cooked with curry spices and vegetables). The rice dish such as the curry shrimp fried rice is delicious. Unique and fragrant, unlike regular fried rice. The shrimp chow fun is creamy with a silky egg sauce and tenderly wrapped with soft flat rice noodles. The Singaporean noodles are great here - not too salty but has a good curry taste. I actually get nice and full when eating the grub here. Their are no msg like symptoms after eating here, atleast I havent experienced it. Lastly, ordering the hot milk tea is a must here! Its nice and strong with a good tea taste. Pair it with the HK style french toast and you're set to end your meal! The french toast is eggy, soft and creamy at the same time. You'll get loads of butter and condensed milk in between your bite - but its all goood! Try it if you're a fan of french toast but want something a bit unique. I've been here twice so far and have been pleased with good service and hot fresh food. Big portions of food with a low price. The menu is quite large and can be overwhelming. I'll definitely be visiting soon again and trying other items that I have experienced yet. I'd say HOB is a casual spot when looking into having a relaxed meal with family or friends. Until next time!”
