Dandanah Cafe serves up Mediterranean and Egyptian food. The latter is more difficult to find in Houston, even with all the diversity the city has to offer. My sister and I came in here just to try the Egyptian food. Having knowledge on the cuisine, I knew exactly which dishes pertained to the culture. My sister ordered the Hawawshy (meat pie) and I ordered the Goulash. Both of our dishes were stuffed with ground beef. Mine was wrapped with a pastry dough and my sisters meal was baked inside of a bread. Her dish was much tastier and warmer than mine. My dish was cold and came with a simple salad without any dressing. Given the price.. it wasn't worth it. My sisters dish was a buck less and was more substantial. It came with a side of veggies and a salad dressing. Our server was friendly and checked on us many of times. He was helpful as well. I also ordered a cafe latte, which was four dollars. It was a bit pricy, but at least they used Lavazza coffee. All in all, our meals were decent. I may try another savory Egyptian dish the next time I drop by. Perhaps the Koshary, or the Pasta with Bechamel. They also serve dessert such as Kanafeh and Umm Ali which i'll order with coffee the next time I come around. There are also large cakes within their display case. My sweet tooth will make its way here quite soon again. PS- I cant stand the smell of hookah. Given this weather, all the hookah smokers decided to smoke inside the cafe. The smell gives me a headache, but I came in just to try the food. I let my server know, and he allowed us to sit in another spot of the cafe. He even turned on the heater because I mentioned that it was cold inside. Yep.. good customer service matters!
