Sara's full firsthand review

A shabby and rundown strip on Richmond Ave.. Zeyad Bakery & Sweets offers up some savory and sweet Palestinian baked goods. The outside of the bakery gives off an unkempt and uninviting feel. I still made my way here as the cravings for baklava were unreal. When I stepped inside, no one asked if I needed any help. Two of the guys working in the back were speaking loudly in Arabic. They kinda just stared at me in awkward silence. I made my way through the dusty shelves and checked out the grocery items. They have quite a few products here, ranging from fresh baked bread, candies, coffee/tea, spices, etc. They also have a refrigerator full of cheese and yogurt. I decided not to pick up any grocery items and made myself towards the baked goods. I picked up a large Spinach pie (Fatayer bi Sabanekh) and three pieces of the baklava filled with cream. The bakery didn't have a large selection of desserts at the time I came in. The bright orange kanafeh seemed enticing but I'll try that for another visit. I'd say this bakery is a good place to order a large quantity of desserts for a party. I'd like to try the Levantine pizza on my next trip. It's called Sfina and its layered with ground beef and tomatoes. They have one with ground thyme (zaatar) and cheese as well (manakeesh). Cedar Bakery is right near this plaza.. so the competition is stiff up on the bakers. Zeyad Bakery has a small dining area if you decide to order and eat within the premises. I'd probably eat the warm pizza and fried snacks such as kibbeh in house. I'm not too sure if I'll be back anytime soon. Im curious to try Cedar Bakery next door. The unkempt bakery and silent service was awkward. But I recommend picking up dessert from here if you're curious to try something new.
